Christians and Jews issue joint statement on freedom of speech on Israel and Palestine
Kairos Britain has joined together with Jews for Justice for Palestinians and other prominent Christian groups and individuals to challenge the backlash against criticism of Israel’s policies which affect Palestinian human rights, and the classification of such criticism as anti-Semitic.
It was the response to Lichfield Cathedral’s festival ‘Holding Palestine in the Light’ which triggered the statement, which you can read below in full: jewish-christian-statement-on-lichfield
Following a successful 2 day conference, whose stated aim was to
“explore how a path to lasting peace and security can be found, what we in the UK need to understand about the conflict and what the prospects are for a just peace”, Lichfield Cathedral was subjected to a barrage of negative comments and criticism claiming that it’s conference was anti-Semitic and racist.
The Dean of the Cathedral and Bishop of Lichfield both issued statements and drew the arguments and criticism to a close on social media after allowing people to express their opinions.
Kairos and Jews for Justice for Palestinians feel it is important to challenge the right of people to free speech on Israel and Palestine, and to challenge the classification of criticism against the state of Israel as ‘anti-Semitic’.
